We are a small community of people (a “sangha”) interested in studying and practicing meditation and mindfulness in the Buddhist tradition. The teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Zen teacher, serve our guide and inspiration. We strive to follow the teachings he has given us.
Our group is small, but it is diverse. We include Christians, Buddhists, and persons with no declared faith. All are welcome to participate.
We meet on Monday evenings from 7 to 8:30.
During the covid pandemic we began meeting via Zoom. We continue to utilize this medium as we have members who live away from our location or who travel frequently. Using Zoom allows them to continue with their sangha “home”. In our meetings, we enjoy a twenty-minute silent meditation after which we discuss the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. We share reading and insights about the teachings and our practice (dharma discussion). We conclude each meeting with a five-minute meditation. We welcome visitors and friends to join us.
Hello. My husband & I are thinking of moving from CO to Bismarck to be with family. I’m a 69-yr.old certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher from U of CA – Berkeley; my main teacher was Jack Kornfield. I teach classes to various community groups where I live. I’m wondering – would this group or any other community groups in or around Bismarck be interested in my teaching? I can’t find any alumni from my 2-yr. training program in ND. Your group sounds very good to me. Thanks. Judy Ludwig-Keller
Judy,
Thank you for your response, The sangha discussed your offer. Some of us would be interested in your teachings while others would prefer to follow the teachings of Thich Nhat Han exclusively– at least during the Monday meetings of the sangha. There would be interest in your teaching among some members if offered outside of sangha meetings. There are opportunities for discovery of interest in your teachings: The Unitarian Chruch and the adult education program at Bismarck State College are possibilities and I am sure there are others.
By the way, we would welcome you to attend our sangha meetings if you would like.

Hey! I’m an atheist, but I have a lot of ideals and values that align with Buddhism and such. Might be a dumb question, but would you guys mind if I try attending some time to see if these meetings are something I’ll enjoy?
